The Night And Me

Dusty leaves rustled beneath my feet The night wind caressed my hair Stars shine warmly down at me Giving me company in the dark we share Rusty lampposts populate the sidewalk Through the endless maze of empty streets They whisper amongst them as I pass by I hear them through the blaring of some pubs beats At a distance I see a figure But as I approach I’m not sure what I had seen I don’t know why she didn’t linger She was there for a moment so temporary it might’ve never been Probably my mind playing ticks on me In the realm between shadows and light I wish she was still here with me The canopy of dark trees console me saying “it’s alright” I wander awhile by myself Through shadows and specks of light, aimlessly I might appear completely alone Yet I’m surrounded by watchful company
